Ready for the Rose City. Designer Jesper Voxnaes is far from the only artist to be inspired by the quirkiness that is Portland, Oregon. But he’s certainly the first to create an everyday carry folding knife so slim, lightweight, and perfectly suited for the city.

Typically, Jesper designs his custom creations in his shop in Loegstrup, Denmark. The Piet™ /peet/, though, was first sketched in Portland International Airport on the heels of his first-ever visit to the city. With a satin finish and a flat grind, the drop point blade is tough yet lightweight, it’ll fly under the radar until it’s time to do damage to some packaging. The Septimo™ tactical folder was designed by a seasoned Green Beret to be more than a knife—he forged it of experience and created it to serve as a lifeline. Jeremy Valdez of Tampa, Florida brings combat experience and time serving in the 7th Special Forces Group to the aptly named Septimo™; a tribute meaning “seventh” in Spanish. The main motivation for this design arises from his 2009 deployment to Afghanistan. During combat operations, Jeremy was involved in a helicopter crash. In the chaotic aftermath, the small folder he had failed to perform when he was cutting straps and moving debris while pulling fellow soldiers out of the burning, tangled chopper wreckage.

Duty to his fallen comrades and brothers and sisters in arms drove him to design the Septimo™ with a quick flipper opening, a desert-proof black oxide finish, and friction points on the handles to help deal with inclement conditions. It was given a single Veff Serration™ for impressively effective strap cutting ability.

He finished off the look with a pivot point designed to mirror a six shooter revolver cylinder and a burly attachment clip built to survive hectic conditions.

Known as the "Black Cat" knife by American GI's after World War 2, the Mercator still enjoys an excellent reputation among knife enthusiasts worldwide. 

In cooperation with Woodlore, an exclusive Mercator model with the unique handle box in reed green and the cat painted in black was created a few years ago. A new chapter in the more than 140-year history of the Mercator knife, to which OTTER knives could add another highlight. The Mercator K55K "Cat Reed Green" won 1st place in the "Classic" category at the IWA Knife Award 2023. The blade is available in C75 carbon steel.

For more than 100 years the Mercator knife has been produced in Solingen almost unchanged. This Solingen original was first produced in the knife and blade forge "Mercator" Indiawerk Heinrich Kaufmann & Söhne. Even though it was not designed as an army knife, the army of Kaiser Wilhelm quickly learned to appreciate the qualities of the Mercator. The name "Kaiser Wilhelm Messer" originates from this time. As it is almost indestructible, the Mercator knife was passed on from generation to generation in the past. This is also how it made the leap into the present day.

Since 1995 this robust pocket knife has been produced by OTTER-Messer in Solingen. Its shape has remained the same until today, as well as its qualities with which it distinguishes itself in everyday life: reliability, robustness and handiness. In addition to the traditional shapes of the Mercator knife, you will also find some new models which stand out in colour but still retain their classic silhouette.
